What makes Ken®vention fun? Event Themes!
We're offering two seated meal events and one reception, each with a
different theme! Come captivating in steampunk couture, mesmeric in
millinery, sultry in saloon-wear or just western suit yourself. Dressing to
the event themes is a fun way to get into the spirit of the convention,
but is not required.
The Steamboat Gambler
Welcome Reception
Thursday Evening
As the country began to spread west, steam
power and specifically the steamboat played a major role in the
development. As Cities passed ordinances against gambling
houses in towns, gamblers moved to the unregulated waters of the
Mississippi aboard these steamboats. The acceptance of gambling
aboard steamboats reflected the temper of the times and the wild
frontier in which it gained acceptance.
Come to our casino night as a professional Southern Gambler or
Southern Belle dressed in your steampunk finery wagering high
stakes against the luxurious background of the riverboat social
rooms. Be one of the many passengers, from one of the
entertainers or showgirls on board to the wealthy cotton
brokers, millionaire merchants from New Orleans or affluent
farmers and land speculators living the adventurous life. All
using their creativity and imagination with all things steampunk
and just waiting to be unexpectedly fleeced by the gambler.
Attendees will be Voting for Best Male and
Female Costumes.
Make sure your fashions
have deep pockets, because we will be presenting some wonderful
items for bid in the Silent Auction!

The Showdown In Carson City Dinner Event
Friday Evening
Be transported into the wild and wooly
past of the American Wild West, its history and legends of
cowboys, western cowgirls and pioneer women of the west, guns,
the Pony Express Mail Delivery, famous outlaws and lawmen and
the exciting Gunfights
Decidedly more western themed night but
feel free to add a steampunk flair. Think your favorite TV
Cowboy westerns, Gunsmoke, Big Valley, Bonanza, Maverick and of
course Wild Wild West. The American west frontier featured all
sorts of people from pioneers and scouts to lawmen, outlaws,
gangs and gunfighters to cowboy and cowgirls. In the saloons
you’d find such customers as fur trappers, cowboys, soldiers,
gold prospectors and miners, gamblers and of course dancing
girls.

The Great Steam Locomotive Dinner Event
Saturday Evening
Steampunk embraces the evolution of steam
powered machinery and nothing epitomizes that more than the
steam powered locomotive. The Locomotive changed the country as
it allowed people access to the wild wild west.
Celebrate the imagination and enter a
world of science fiction and fantasy set in the American “Wild
West” and 19th
century Victorian era. Imagine what western life would have been
like if the modern technologies of our century had been achieved
by the people of the 19th
century all by employing steam power and ingenuity. Dress in
your most fanciful outfit, not necessarily strictly Western or
Victorian, but a variation including technological gadgets and
gears or hints of a more advanced life than a typical Old West
or Victorian citizen likely enjoyed.
